Duplex twin-column technology: soft water 24/7
Unlike conventional single-column water softeners that cannot soften water during regeneration, the ORUS 2 Duplex features two resin columns operating in parallel. When one column regenerates, the other takes over — result: soft water available at all times, without interruption.
This system is particularly suited to households of 2 to 6 people with up to 2 bathrooms, where the demand for softened water is constant and consumption peaks are frequent (morning showers, washing machine, dishwasher).
Counter-current regeneration (Up Flow) — salt and water savings
The ORUS 2 uses counter-current regeneration (Up Flow), the most efficient technology on the market. Unlike conventional downflow, counter-current:
- Saves salt — reduced consumption compared to conventional co-current water softeners

Installing the ORUS 2 water softener
Installing the ORUS 2 is quick and straightforward for any qualified installer. The absence of an electrical connection significantly reduces intervention time.
- Position the water softener upstream of the water heater, on a flat, stable surface, protected from frost
- Connect the water inlet and outlet via the integrated bypass, using mandatory flexible hoses
- Connect the drain hose to a regulatory siphon — the drain must be gravity-fed
- Install a pressure reducer if the pressure exceeds 6 bar
- Insert the 9V battery (or plug in the optional mains adapter)
- Fill the salt tank with tablet salt or 4 kg blocks
- Programme the unit: operating mode, resin capacity and cycle times
- Run a first regeneration cycle
Important — The water softener must be installed before the water heater in the circuit. Temperatures above 50 °C damage the resins. A non-return valve is mandatory upstream.
Maintaining the ORUS 2 water softener
The ORUS 2 requires minimal maintenance thanks to its automatic functions. A few regular steps are all that is needed:
- Salt — check the level regularly and top up with tablet salt or 4 kg blocks
- 9V battery — replace approximately once a year (the display shows the battery level)
- Resin cleaner — an annual treatment extends the exchange capacity of the resin
- Hardness check — test the residual hardness with a TH test kit regularly
- Salt tank cleaning — once a year to remove deposits

Does the ORUS 2 really work without electricity?
Yes. The ORUS 2 operates on a simple 9V battery (type 6LR61), available everywhere. A 240V mains adapter is available as an option but is not required. The water softener can be installed in rooms without a power socket.
What is the difference between a Duplex water softener and a single-column one?
A Duplex (twin-column) water softener like the ORUS 2 has two resin columns that operate alternately. When one column regenerates, the other continues to soften the water. Result: soft water available 24/7, without interruption. A single-column unit cannot soften water during its regeneration.
